Folktales Presents Afro Groove
Join us for our second segment of Folktales World Music live at the Folklore where we are joined this time round by the legendary Bene Tally Band of Senegalese and West African heritage and the rhythm centric Andean Afro-latin fusion delights of LOKANDES.
Converging at the magnificent forest of lore on 186 Hackney Road - Bene Tally Band which was formerly initiated by master Dembis Thioung, brings with them a unique and organic sound of Senegalese/ West African percussion rhythms, ancestral songs and choreographies which weave various Afro-Latin traditional musical forms and instruments against the bass heavy sound of the West African Dundun drum.
Expect to be entranced by the engaging and co-creative atmosphere of traditional song, reflexive dance at the primal rhythm and the opportunity to connect to your deeper self, others and life itself through the deeply hypnotic and seductive rhythm.
We’ll then be graced by the unconventional and alternative sound of Lokandes - a name reflecting the eclectic fusion of Andean instruments with contemporary genres such as Reggae, Cumbia, Ska, Jazz, Rumba Folk and funky Latin rhythms all of which make this band an experience not to be missed.
The band brings together a diverse cast of musicians from Peru, Bolivia, Panama, Chile, Spain & Cuba and is lead by their charismatic leader Kanti of Peruvian descent horning their unique sound, alongside socially conscious lyrics and a super-tight rhythm section drawing awareness to the diverse Latin-American and global cultures.
In true collaborative Folktales fashion, we will end the night with a collective improv jam with both bands joined and supported by the musical gifts of Gnawa Master - Simo Lagnawi and the Audio.sync Collective for an unforgettable night of dancing, connecting and celebration of culture and unity in rhythm.
